CHALLENGE

Design an immersive wellbeing experience powered by neurotechnology and the science of liminal states.

Commissioned by 113 Spring, Kinda was challenged to create an experience that moves beyond traditional mindfulness — using emerging neurotechnologies and sensory design to expand consciousness, support emotional regulation, and spark creative insight. The goal was to demonstrate how science-led design can open new pathways to presence and restoration in today’s fast-paced world.

CREATIVE CONCEPT

A personalised neuroaesthetic experience using biofeedback to attune to each guest’s inner state.

Developed through Kinda’s Science-Informed Design approach, Emergence fuses neuroscientific research, neuroaesthetic design, and real-time neurotechnology to guide participants into altered states marked by alpha and theta brainwave dominance. Through multisensory visual, sonic, and vibroacoustic immersion, the experience shifts the mind beyond habitual patterns into a liminal state — the space between waking and dreaming where creativity and insight arise. to support emotional release, mental restoration, and expanded awareness.

EXECUTION

A neurosensory journey for creative expansion

Each journey begins with a seed of intention that anchors the experience. As the journey develops, guests are exposed to different aesthetic and sensory styles, each designed to evoke specific neural and emotional responses. Using an EEG headset to measure brainwave activity throughout the session and real time biofeedback, the experience adapts to individual user needs, adjusting the visual, sonic, and vibroacoustic elements, crafting a personalised sensory environment to help them drop in.

As wellbeing practices evolve, new research is revealing the power of experiential approaches that engage altered states of consciousness — unlocking insights and awareness often hidden in everyday life. Carefully crafted sensory experiences do more than soothe: they expand presence, heighten connection, and open new pathways to creativity and emotional understanding. When combined with neurotechnologies such as mobile EEG, these experiences become transformative gateways, redefining how we approach health, healing, and human potential.

Emergence is designed to guide participants into alpha and theta brainwave states - patterns associated with relaxed focus, imagination, and insight. Through intention setting, neural entrainment, personalised biofeedback, and multisensory immersion, Emergence supports emotional regulation, mental restoration, and creative expansion.

The experience begins with intention setting, where guests select a personal focus - a “seed of intention” — to guide their journey. Over the private, personalised session, guests are exposed to distinct visual and sensory styles, each designed to evoke specific neural and emotional responses while the EEG headset records their brainwave activity. The visual environment uses abstract patterns that quiet analytical thinking, while adaptive generative music composed by Robert Thomas combines binaural beats, low-frequency drones, pink noise, and ASMR to encourage deep relaxation and trance-like states.

Sound is paired with vibroacoustic stimulation delivered through the ShapedSound Sonaform chair, which translates low frequencies into gentle vibrations felt throughout the body. This physical layer deepens the connection between mind and body, supporting nervous system regulation and sustained calm. As the experience concludes, guests are invited to reflect and integrate — capturing ideas, images, and insights before they fade, bridging subconscious experience with conscious understanding.

Emergence pioneers a new generation of personalised, evidence-based experiences — demonstrating how science and art can work together to guide people into restorative, creative, and expanded states of consciousness.
