CHALLENGE

Fuse the science of entrainment, breathwork and immersive art into a digital wellbeing intervention

The benefits of breathwork, audio entrainment and immersive visual art on interoception are well documented, yet no digital experience has been created fusing these together to increase access, impact and immersion.

CREATIVE CONCEPT

A digital immersive experience blending spatial audio, 3D animation and rhythmic entrainment to facilitate an immersive breathing experience

Inspirit is an audiovisual experience harnessing the power of breathwork. Designed from neuroaesthetics research of sound, visual art, and entrainment, audiences sync their breath to the rhythm of the artwork.

EXECUTION

A 20-minute digital audiovisual experience enhancing interoception and pioneering a new future of wellbeing

Inspirit visuals and audio beat to a set rhythm for users to follow, and has been proven to reduce anxiety and increase embodiment. With a range of programmes to both energise and relax, it offers a pioneering new way to experience yourself, and your breath.

The neuroscience of sound, rhythmic entrainment, immersive experiences and breathwork is well known, yet there are gaps in who, how and when individuals across groups can access this. By blending established research with the creative experience, we created a digital intervention designed to reach a wider audience, offering new ways to experience wellbeing - democratising immersive experiences and breathwork for more individuals.

As the creative directors and creators behind the experience, Kinda worked with interdisciplinary designer and digital artist Lucy Hardcastle Studio, and LA-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Nailah Hunter, known for her ambient music and ethereal harp. Mixed in Dolby Atmos spatial audio, it wraps audiences in a full bodied experience.

In partnership with Goldsmiths University and the Kinda Lab, Inspirit has gone through iterative and final design testing proving its impact on reducing anxiety and increasing embodiment.

The experience is available in 6, 10 and 20 minute iterations with programmes to energise and uplift, and ones to restore and relax. Its format allows for maximum adaptability across digital at-home screens, in lobbies, on demand content in hotel rooms, large cinematic experiences, gallery spaces and public settings. Inspirit offers a unique aesthetic experience that blends art and science, offering new avenues for exploring the potential of multisensory wellbeing experiences to connect to the self.
